The holidays are right around the corner and that means plenty of parties, get togethers, and family photos. This is the time of year when it’s fun to dress up and look your best. This includes picking out a great shade of lipstick to make your lips shine. A beautiful smile is icing on the cake! When meeting someone, we all want to put our best lips forward, but what if yours aren’t as full as you’d like? Lip augmentation might be a good option for you.
Currently, the FDA has approved Juvederm Ultra XC and Restylane Silk gel fillers for augmentation of lips. The filler can produce a naturally full look and last up to 6 months. Many people will need 1 to 2 syringes to give their lips the right amount of fullness. The technique is simple and in experienced hands, can give you the perfect look.
It’s best not to overfill because too much filler can produce the dreaded duck lips look. Also, it’s important to have realistic expectations. People are very different, meaning that one particular look is not right for everyone. A person’s entire face has to be taken into consideration when doing lip augmentation. Even the dental structure is important.
At Metro Aesthetics and Wellness, we like to use both a dental block and topical anesthetic. I administer the topical anesthetics for a few minutes and then I use lidocaine to do a block, similar to dental blocks. The patient is usually very comfortable during the entire procedure.
It’s important to let your physician know if you are prone to cold sores. If you are, you may need treatment with acyclovir one week prior to the injection to lower the possibility of an outbreak. Also, I recommend not to use anti-inflammatories the week prior to the procedure as they are blood thinners and can cause increased bleeding and bruising.
Anesthetic treatments performed in a doctor’s office by the steady hands of an experienced physician and staff is our specialty. Call us for a consultation and start picking out a dazzling new shade of lipstick!
