How Does Ultherapy Work?
Collagen acts as the scaffolding of healthy skin, but it weakens as we age, causing sagging and laxity. Ultherapy not only improves your existing supply of collagen, but it also induces your body to make brand-new collagen over the following months. This can help you look years younger.
Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to penetrate the dermis and stimulate your skin’s natural collagen modeling response. Unlike other technologies such as lasers or radiofrequency, nonsurgical Ultherapy precisely targets the skin and delivers the exact amount of energy at the ideal temperature necessary to trigger the production of new collagen.
Proven Benefits of Ultherapy
A decline in collagen production causes drooping, sagging skin, which can make you look older and less energetic. Ultherapy can help you maintain a youthful, vibrant appearance for longer by tightening loose skin and slowing the aging process. Ultherapy will improve your skin’s overall health, causing it to lift and tighten, reducing jowls or a “turkey neck,” and smoothing away any fine lines that have formed.
Ultherapy is a safe, gentle, and non-invasive in-office procedure. When you choose this treatment method, you won’t have to worry about sutures, scars, or the risks associated with general anesthesia. Immediately after you get your treatment, you can return to work and resume your regular routine with no activity restrictions or aftercare instructions. Many of our patients have called Ultherapy a “lunchtime lift” because it is so quick and minimally disruptive.
Am I a Good Candidate for Ultherapy?
The results of Ultherapy are most effective for patients who would like to correct mildly sagging skin or tighten and firm areas where they’re starting to notice lines and wrinkles. For best results, you shouldn’t have overly lax or sun-damaged skin. Depending on the quality of your skin, your body’s ability to produce new collagen, and the results you’d like to achieve, Dr. Eros may suggest combining other treatments with Ultherapy to make your skin look its best.
Ultherapy has become a favorite among people who are starting to worry about the earliest signs of aging and are seeking preventive ways to look younger without the pain and healing time associated with surgery. Ultherapy is ideal for patients who prefer a subtler, more gradual improvement, so nobody will be able to tell they’ve gotten “work done.”
What to Expect During and After Ultherapy
Ultherapy has only mild side effects. You can expect to feel a warming sensation during the procedure, which is how you will know the ultrasound energy is starting to take effect. We will apply a numbing cream beforehand to minimize any discomfort. Although you should expect minor redness, tenderness, tingling, sensitivity, and swelling after your treatment, these effects are very short-term and should soon resolve on their own.
Ultherapy causes tissue to tighten over time as new collagen grows. You’ll get anti-aging results from your forehead to your décolletage, without the risks and recovery time associated with surgery. In general, you can look forward to continued, natural-looking improvements in your skin over three to six months. These results can last a year or more. While Ultherapy doesn’t provide the same dramatic enhancements as a facelift can, it is an ideal way to turn back time for people who aren’t ready to commit to a more invasive option.
Touch-up treatments every few years can help slow your skin’s natural aging process; however, many of our clients see excellent results after only one appointment. After your Ultherapy session, be careful to shield your skin from further damage by not smoking and taking steps to avoid sun exposure.
Ultherapy FAQs
Is Ultherapy Safe?
Yes, the Ultherapy device has been thoroughly tested and assessed in both the US and Europe. Furthermore, millions of procedures have been conducted worldwide, with no significant adverse effects reported.
Are There Any Side Effects of Ultherapy Treatments?
There may be slight redness for a few hours after your treatment. It’s not uncommon to experience slight swelling, tingling, and tenderness for a few days after. These side effects are usually very mild and short-lived, but if they persist in any way, do not hesitate to notify your provider to ensure everything is healing correctly. You can resume normal activities immediately without following any special post-treatment measures. Some patients have experienced short-term effects, such as mild bruising or scratching. These side effects are infrequent and are usually due to an internal bodily issue that causes bruises to become visible easily.
Are There Any Measures You Can Take to Prepare Your Skin For Ultherapy?
No significant preparations are required before your Ultherapy treatment. Some medication may make you more likely to bruise. During your consultation with Dr. Eros, inform her of any medication and supplements you might be taking. Dr. Eros may recommend that you temporarily discontinue the use of some medications or supplements before your treatment to help prevent these uncommon side effects.
How Soon Until You Will See the Results Of Ultherapy?
There may be an immediate appearance of a ‘lift’ after just one treatment due to the initial contraction of collagen. Still, most of the lifting and toning will take place over 2-3 months as your body produces new collagen and elastin. As this influx of collagen and elastin continues, further improvements will become apparent up to 6 months after your treatment.
How Long Do the Effects of Ultherapy Last?
Patients treated with Ultherapy will have new collagen and elastin up to a year after their procedure, and the results of treatment can last over a year for some patients. However, the skin does continue to age, so it is important to schedule follow-up appointments for 12 to 18 months to maintain your results.
How Many Ultherapy Treatments Will I Need?
After one treatment, most patients find that they have achieved their desired results. However, based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy, and the individual collagen-building process of the patients, some patients may benefit from additional treatment. Because the skin continues to age, future touch-up treatment can help patients keep up with their body’s natural aging process.
How Much Does Ultherapy Cost in San Diego?
In general, Ultherapy in San Diego is more affordable than surgical procedures because you can save money on expenses such as hospital privileges and anesthesiologist and surgeon fees. We can give you a more accurate estimate of your total price tag when we meet with you in person.
What’s the Difference Between Lasers and Ultherapy?
Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to create excellent results. Its unique properties allow it to reach depths other non-invasive devices cannot touch. By stimulating collagen production, one Ultherapy treatment can provide you with noticeably elevated and tightened skin over a few months. Ultherapy is an FDA-approved lifting solution.
In contrast, laser skin rejuvenation treatments use light energy and can only treat the top layers of skin. Lasers also have not received FDA clearance to lift skin. However, since Ultherapy and lasers address different skin issues, you can choose to combine these procedures to achieve even better results.
What Areas Can I Target With Ultherapy?
Ultherapy has received FDA approval for treating the face, neck, and chest areas. We can also use Ultherapy to minimize the look of a double chin – a pocket of fat that might have resisted your efforts to diet and exercise. With Ultherapy, you can see exceptional firming and tightening along your jawline without resorting to chin and neck liposuction.
Is Ultherapy Customizable?
A skilled Ultherapy practitioner can tailor the treatment to meet your needs. For example, we can adjust the ultrasound device to change how deeply the energy penetrates the skin. We can also use Ultherapy alongside other minimally invasive solutions such as Juvéderm® or Botox® for even better results. When you come in for your consultation, ask Dr. Eros about your options. She can help determine the best treatment plan for you based on your unique concerns.
