Liquid Facelift vs. Traditional Facelift

If you’ve been considering treatments to help revitalize your appearance, you may have seen traditional and liquid facelifts and are curious how one stacks up against the other. A liquid facelift can provide many of the same benefits as a traditional facelift—without needing to undergo surgery or face a lengthy recovery time.

Under the care of a qualified and skilled physician, both can create stunning, natural-looking results, addressing many age-related concerns like wrinkles, skin laxity, fine lines, and lost facial volume. However, when it comes to determining which procedure is the right fit for you, it all depends on several different factors.

Read on for a comparison of both procedures and what they both entail:

What Is Involved in a Liquid Facelift?

A liquid facelift is a non-invasive procedure that combines two injectable treatments: Botox® and dermal fillers.

At Eros Beauty and Wellness, I offer my patients a variety of different dermal fillers to help specifically target their individual needs. These fillers include Voluma XC, Restylane®, Radiesse®, Juvéderm® XC, and Belotero Balance. The different types of dermal fillers work in unique ways and hold unique consistencies that allow us to target concerns in specific areas of the face. For example, some work best in larger areas such as the cheeks or the forehead, while others help to add controlled volume to delicate areas like around the eyes and the lips.

While dermal fillers restore volume, improve facial contours, and create a youthful fullness back to the skin, Botox® injections work to smooth wrinkles and fine lines. In addition, Botox® relaxes facial muscles preventing expression lines from forming around the eyes, forehead, and mouth.

Results of a Liquid Facelift

The results of a liquid facelift can be seen immediately, and most patients can resume normal activities without the need to rest for recovery. However, the results are temporary. Most patients require touch-up treatments every 6 to 24 months depending on the rate their body metabolizes the injectable solutions, how they take care of their skin, and the integrity of their skin. It is also most effective for patients experiencing mild to moderate signs of skin aging.

What Is Involved in a Traditional Facelift?

A traditional facelift is an invasive surgical procedure involving tightening and removing sagging skin and muscles. It’s performed under local or general anesthesia and involves an incision, suturing, and often extensive recovery time, usually requiring about two to four weeks. A benefit of a traditional facelift is that results are essentially permanent. However, it’s not uncommon for patients to need to touch up treatments with Botox® and dermal fillers as they age.

A surgical facelift is often the best procedure for patients with excessively loose, sagging skin.
