Last month, Dr. Christine Eros hosted a booth at the San Diego Women’s Expo where she discussed and illustrated one of the most exciting procedures she offers – SculpSure. I sat down with her to discuss the finer points of fat removal via this very effective body sculpting procedure.
First of all, Dr. Eros, can you give us an overview of what exactly SculpSure body sculpting is?
Sculpture is a laser procedure that targets fat cells in a very specific and permanent way to produce fat loss without surgery. Up to 24% of the treated fat cells are destroyed in a procedure that lasts less than 30 minutes. The fat is absorbed and exits the body via the lymphatic system.
How long does a patient have to wait until they can see results?
The average person will see results around 6 to 12 weeks after the procedure. You can visit my website for some before and after photos.
Can I use SculpSure to lose weight?
No. Sculpture is designed to treat those pesky fat deposits that remain despite an effective exercise routine. I’m talking “love handles” and “tummy bulges.”
We’ve also seen some information about Coolsculping. What’s the difference between the two?
Coolsculpting freezes the fat cells instead of heating them. The treatments last for about an hour and people typically require anywhere from 2 to 4 treatments to achieve the desired results. Sculpture patients often find they require only two treatments, plus the treatments are about 25 minutes. The cooling can be uncomfortable, but with SculpSure, you will feel a warm sensation with possible redness that will resolve that day. With the cool method, you need to massage the fat away. That’s not the case with SculpSure. If you’re looking for the most comfortable means of laser fat reduction, SculpSure is a great choice.
Who’s the best candidate for a SculpSure treatment?
The best person for this type of treatment is someone who has an established diet and exercise routine but who just can’t get a break on these problem areas. Also, a person with a Body Mass Index of less than 30 is great.
Can you walk us through the procedure?
Of course. So SculpSure is a fat reducing laser treatment. We place four separate pads on the trouble areas. The patient’s fat deposits are heated, but the skin is unaffected. In other words, there’s no residual skin issue from the heating of the fat cells. Again, clients can see results between 6 and 12 weeks after treatment.
Is SculpSure safe?
Although SculpSure has been out about a year, lasers were first produced in the 1960’s and have evolved to be used in everything from pointers in presentation to the removal of tattoos. These lasers are really great at targeting specific areas. By adjusting the wavelength, power and medium, the laser can target specific cells in the body. Other cells do not respond to the laser, only the fat cells. The brilliance behind SculpSure is that it is able to get fat cells to a temperature where they are disrupted, leaving other tissue completely intact. Some individuals may experience redness that will go away by the end of the day, mild discomfort or slight swelling, but because this is a non-invasive procedure, there is little risk involved.
How new is this procedure and is it FDA approved?
Sculpture is FDA approved and was developed by Cynosure, a leader in the aesthetic laser market since 1991. Cynosure currently holds 37 U.S. patents and markets of 14 different light used systems used throughout 60 country.
How does someone set up an appointment for a consultation to see if this procedure is right for them?
They can give my office a call at 619-481-4651 or we can be contacted online. Either Mayra or Suzanne can get you scheduled. We also have a SculpSure Event scheduled for October 26th at 6:30 p.m. at our Mission Valley Office. We’ll have a ton of information about the procedure and can consult right then and there. Give us a call to RSVP. I can talk to a perspective client about SculpSure, for sure, but I want to make sure the patient’s overall health is being addressed.
