What To Expect From Your Next Chemical Peel

A chemical peel has become a staple for women and men who are trying to combat age-related skin issues, textural irregularities, discoloration, acne, or dullness. A typical chemical peel involves an acid solution being applied to the skin and left for an extended period of time while being closely monitored by a medical or skin care professional. The chemical solution dissolves the outermost layer of skin cells, which then peel off over the following days to reveal fresher, younger, more vibrant skin underneath.

Here’s everything you can expect when you come in for a chemical peel at Eros Beauty and Wellness in San Diego.

Everything You Can Expect from Your Next Chemical Peel at Eros Beauty and Wellness

Before Your Chemical Peel

Before the chemical peel is applied, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and prepared with a solution to remove oils and allow the peel to penetrate the skin more evenly. Don’t worry – we will protect your eyes and mouth from the peel as these areas are too sensitive to the chemicals.

During Your Chemical Peel

Once your skin has been thoroughly cleansed, your eyes and mouth are protected, and you are ready for your peel, one or more chemical mixtures will be applied. I offer three different types of peels:

  • Salicylic acid peel: This is the milder of the three peels used at Eros Beauty & Wellness. It’s exceptional at exfoliating dead skill cells, clearing the pores, and easing acne inflammation.
  • TCA peel: Trichloroacetic acid peels are considered moderate and are great for improving uneven skin tone and texture and leaving you with a lovely glow.
  • Jessner peel: The Jessner is a combination of lactic and salicylic acid, which makes it great for wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, scarring from acne, and even melasma.

The peel will be applied in 1-3 layers depending on the desired penetration. The acid will react with your skin to produce a controlled wound, allowing fresh skin to regenerate and emerge. A tingling, burning, or stinging sensation is normal and can be relieved with a fan or cool air. Once the peel has been on for the desired amount of time, it’s removed.

After Your Chemical Peel

After your chemical peel, your skin may be a bit pink or red and look shiny. It might also feel a little tight. For the next few days, you must keep your skin protected from the skin with either an SPF of 30 or higher or protective sun wear, like a hat. The skin will begin to flake away or peel within 2-3 days after the treatment, which may continue for up to a week. Do not try to peel or pull at flaking skin; allow it to fall away naturally. The healing process may seem slow, but it’s worth it for the beautiful skin reveal.
