Microneedling vs. Chemical Peels

Wrinkles are an inevitable part of the aging process. Genetics, the environment, sun exposure, and lifestyle habits can all be contributing factors to wrinkle development, but that doesn’t mean that you have to live with them.

My name is Dr. Christine Eros, I am a board-certified family physician offering professional, personalized, and effective anti-aging skincare treatments at Eros Beauty and Wellness in San Diego, California. Microneedling and chemical peels are at the top of the list for reducing facial lines and wrinkles. However, it can be hard to determine which is best for you and your skin’s needs.

While the best thing to do is to first have a consultation with me to determine what is best for you, here is a comprehensive guide to help you better understand the difference between chemical peels and microneedling.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel involves applying chemical solutions to your skin, usually in the form of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) or Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA), which are great for exfoliating the skin. The process resurfaces your skin to produce new cells. As the chemicals react to your skin, they exfoliate the top layer so that it eventually peels away, leaving room for new, smoother skin to grow.

At Eros Beauty and Wellness, I offer three different types of peels:

Salicylic Acid: This is a milder peel that is great for exfoliating dead skin cells, clearing pores, and easing inflammation like cystic acne.

TCA: Trichloroacetic acid helps to improve uneven skin tone and texture and leaves your skin with a healthy glow.

Jessner: The Jessner peel consists of a combination of lactic acid for tightening the skin and salicylic acid for exfoliation.

During your consultation, I will evaluate your skin, listen to your concerns, and prepare a treatment so that we can ensure you receive the best peel for your needs.

Microneedling

During Microneedling, I use a device affixed with roughly a dozen tiny needles that create tiny micro injuries in the skin. This nonsurgical procedure works by tricking your skin into thinking it’s been injured and requires deep self-healing with the help of collagen.

Collagen is the primary protein that makes up your bodily tissues. It’s also the ingredient that keeps your skin firm and smooth. As we age, collagen production takes a dip which then contributes to wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin. When you prompt collagen development, you can restore your skin’s elasticity and strength.
