It seems you can’t go anywhere these days without seeing a perfect pouting pair of lips popping out of a magazine, television screen, or even just walking down the street, but some look more natural than others. You might be wondering, how do I achieve those understated yet perfectly plump lips, and what should I know before getting lip injections?
My name is Dr. Christine Eros, and I am a board-certified family physician in the beautiful San Diego area. I have been asked this more times than I could possibly count, so I thought I would share a few more of the most commonly asked questions. Here is what you should know before booking a lip filler appointment.
1. Is Your Practitioner Qualified?
First and foremost, for beautiful, naturally plump lips, it’s essential—regardless of the treatment you are receiving—to check your doctor’s qualifications, experience, reviews, and even the results of lip fillers they have done in the past. If you cannot easily access this information, then it’s best to continue looking elsewhere. Stories of botched lip fillers happen because they were performed by people who weren’t qualified. So, before you book your consultation, make sure you find all the necessary information and have a qualified professional conduct your treatment.
What are the Most Common Types of Lip Fillers?
At Eros Beauty and Wellness, we offer several of the best fillers for lip augmentation in the market.
We use Belotero for treating moderate-to-severe etched-in lines and wrinkles within the lips. This product blends naturally into your lips for a smooth, youthful appearance.
We also offer Juvéderm® Ultra XC, an FDA-approved filler composed of hyaluronic acid gel used to improve your lips’ volume and shape.
We also offer Restylane® and Restylane® Silk, a soft hyaluronic gel that is administered to improve the volume in the face and the lips. This one can be used by itself for a soft, natural finish or in conjunction with other fillers and neuromodulators.
How are Lip Augmentations Done?
Lip Augmentation is a seemingly painless, quick procedure that you can have done during your lunch break or before work. I will begin by numbing the area, if you desire, with a topical anesthetic cream so you won’t feel a thing except for possibly some slight pressure. The lip fillers are then injected directly into marked locations on your lips. You may experience swelling and bruising in or around the injection sites, but the swelling will dissipate immediately, and the bruising may last up to a week.
How Long Will My Results Last?
The effects of lip fillers always depend on the person receiving them and what kind of filler is used. For most patients, results last anywhere from 6 months to a year.
