As much as we might be unwilling to acknowledge it, aging is a natural part of our lives. As we grow older, our skin begins to show signs of our age by developing wrinkles, becoming thinner, marked with darker pigmentation, or hanging loose in some areas. Luckily, there are options available to help rejuvenate your aging skin.
My name is Dr. Christine Eros, and I am a board-certified family physician at my clinic, Eros Beauty and Wellness, in the gorgeous San Diego area. I’ve developed several tips to help my patients minimize aging related issues and promote an overall healthy-looking glow and feel to their skin.
1. Protect Yourself From the Sun
One of the most effective ways to reduce the signs of aging skin is to remain safe and protected from harmful sun exposure. When taking the necessary precautions to limit your exposure from harmful UVA and UVB rays, you can drastically reduce premature aging. Here are a few easy ways you can protect your skin and avoid painful sunburns:
- Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF, such as Environ RAD Sunscreen. I recommend to all my patients to wear a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, and to reapply their sunscreen every two hours.
- You should also try to limit your time outdoors during peak sun hours, which are usually around 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- You can also wear protective clothing such as shirts, hats, and sunglasses.
2. Talk to a Skin Care Expert
With aging can come hormonal changes that can affect your skin’s quality. A common symptom of hormonal changes is when our skin becomes increasingly dry and lackluster. Dry skin is much more prone to wrinkles and texture problems. When it involves a hormonal imbalance, this can be incredibly challenging to treat on your own. At Eros Beauty and Wellness, I will sit down with you and tailor a skin care routine using our Environ line based on your specific needs using products that contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, collagen, and ceramides to lock in moisture and keep your skin looking young and fresh.
3. Try Botox®
The third secret to rejuvenate aging skin is Botox®. Botox® injections work by blocking the nerve signals that trigger facial muscles to contract, causing wrinkles. Botox® also works as a great preventive measure; if the muscles can’t contract, wrinkles cannot set or form into the skin.
4. Skin Tightening
At Eros Beauty and Wellness, I also offer several minimally invasive procedures that can tighten the skin to help produce a more youthful appearance by encouraging collagen products in the forehead, cheeks, neck, and jaw. One of my most popular treatments for skin tightening is microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy. It works by creating tiny micro-tears in the skin that promote your body’s natural ability to heal itself by boosting the production of collagen and effectively treating wrinkles, dark spots, and fine lines.
5. Dermal Fillers
If you’re trying to reverse some signs of aging that may have already appeared, dermal fillers can flawlessly rejuvenate your skin. Smooth, gel-based fillers can significantly improve the look of wrinkles, volume loss, marionette lines, and prominent tear troughs underneath the eyes. Composed of hyaluronic acid, a compound found naturally inside the human body, dermal fillers will help plump the skin and fade away lines and wrinkles.
