Signs of aging in the face start around the eyes and lips. The dark circles and bags that form under your eyes can give you an aged, tired look, while through the years, the lips begin to lose their volume and shape, decreasing until there is little left to your once full pout.
Dermal fillers can restore volume to these delicate areas of the face, giving you a more youthful and refreshed look without surgical intervention.
My name is Dr. Christine Eros, and I am a board-certified family physician based in San Diego, CA. I offer a variety of dermal fillers to my patients, including Restylane and Juvéderm, which I highly recommend as the best treatment for the delicate skin around the eyes and the lips. I will work alongside you to determine which one of these is the best option for individual goals.
Why Do Dark Circle and Thin Lips Develop?
There are a number of reasons why those frustrating bags and dark circles develop under the eyes. Lifestyle factors can play a part like sun damage, tobacco use, sleep issues, and not following a proper skincare routine, but also the natural aging process. As we age, the tissues in our face weaken due to a decrease in essential proteins like collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin. When this happens, the fat that used to support the eyes area begins to sink.
How Dermal Fillers Can Help
Fillers help by adding volume back into the recessed areas and restoring the contour beneath the eyes and in the upper cheeks. These injectable gels can also stimulate collagen production in the skin, plumping and smoothing the face over time.
Many of my most popular fillers, including Restylane and Juvéderm, are comprised of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a molecule that retains water and binds moisture molecules together, like a sponge, which allows it to then expand to fill in folds and support areas of the face that have begun to lose volume.
Which Filler is Best for Under the Eyes and Lips?
Every patient is different, and they all have different concerns; therefore, the best filler for one patient may not be the best option for another. However, the dermal fillers I most often recommend to my patients for these delicate areas are either Restylane or Juvéderm.
Restylane: Restylane is widely used for the subtle, natural-looking results it provides patients. Comprised of hyaluronic acid, Restylane also includes lidocaine, which minimizes discomfort during the injection process. Containing just the right amount of stiffness and flexibility, Restylane can effectively eliminate the hollows and dark circles that sometimes form underneath the eyes and add a subtle volume back to the lips.
Juvéderm: Juvéderm is another popular hyaluronic injection that can add volume to the cheeks, underneath the eyes, soften facial folds, smooth wrinkles, and plump the lips. Juvéderm is often chosen because it offers a more concentrated form of hyaluronic acid than Restylane and also contains lidocaine for a more comfortable treatment.
